Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much does Tots Swap Shop cost?
A: Nothing! This is a free service!
Q: What do I need to start an account?
A: Just a valid email address, which we verify in order to ensure you can receive emails from Tots Swap Shop that informs you about pending transactions.
Q: What if I haven't gotten a verification email?
A: Be sure to check your junk mail folder, or any spam filters you may have. If they are not located there, please contact us at contact@totsswapshop.com and we will resolve the issue.
Tip: Hotmail accounts often experience long delays when receiving email from a number of websites, Tots Swap Shop included, so if you're using that address, be sure to give it extra time.
We've made a Drop Stuff Page Maker in order to make this process as easy as possible. Follow the instructions, and make sure to fill in the required sections of the form. When you're asked to enter an amount of points, remember that one point is the equivalent of one dollar (US). Once completed, PREVIEW your page to make sure that it contains all the correct information about your item. Then just click the CREATE button at the bottom of the page and your item is posted immediately! Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know how many points to sell my item for?
A: A good rule of thumb is to take the amount you paid for the item originally, then divide that amount in half if your item is in an "almost new" condition (very little wear). The more your item has been used, the less points you should charge for the item. Remember that the each point is equivalent to one US dollar, but actually don't have any monetary value. It's for bartering purposes only.
Q: How do I know how much to charge for shipping?
A: At the bottom of the Drop Stuff Page Maker, we've included some helpful links to help calculate the shipping cost for your item. Make sure you know how large a box you'll need to ship your item initially, and either weigh or estimate the weight of your item to get an idea of how much you'll need to charge.
Q: Can I offer items for free?
A: Sure! If you're feeling charitable or just want the item out of your residence, just assign the item 0 points, and the buyer will just have to pay your shipping costs, or pick it up from you, if you've listed that as an option.
Tips:
- Be as descriptive as possible when describing your item. The more a buyer knows about the item, the more confident they will be when deciding to purchase the item.
- Take a picture of your item rather than finding one on the internet. It's much more likely that a person will want to buy your item if they see an actual photo of it.
If you find an item that you'd like to buy while browsing, select your preferred shipping option from the choices the seller has made available. Then just click the Add To Cart button directly beneath the picture of the image. This will place the item in your cart at which point will be taken to a confirmation page where you can either Checkout or continue to shop. If you continue to shop, the item will stay in your shopping cart until you remove it. If you change your mind about the item, you can always take the item out of your cart by selecting the checkbox next to the item you'd like to remove and click the update button.
When you've decided to proceed with the purchase by clicking the checkout button, you'll be taken to a page to confirm the address to which you would like the item shipped, followed by the order confirmation page. Here you can review the details of the order, such as your delivery address, the item you'd like to purchase, the shipping method and price, cost of the item in points, etc. Once you have confirmed your order, an email will be sent to the seller informing them that you've decided to purchase their item.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I know if the seller is trustworthy?
A: We provide a feedback rating for each user which can be seen on their profile. If a person has not had good transactions, they will have a low feedback and possibly negative reviews.
Q: What if I want to know more about an item before I purchase it?
A: On the item's page, underneath it's photo, there's a button titled "Contact the Seller". You can use this to send a message to the seller of the item and ask any question you may have.
Q: Can I keep an eye on items I'd like to possibly buy at a later date?
A: Yes! On the product details page, under the photo of the item, there's a button for adding the item to a "Watch List". When you click this button, it saves the item to your list. You can always recall this list of items by going to "My Account" and then clicking on the "my lists" button which reveals a link to your Watch List, as well as Wish List and Favorite seller list.
Tips:
If you notice that one seller has more than one item that would be perfect for your child, you may want to add that person to your favorites. We've provided an "Add Seller to Favorite" button under the item's image, to make it easier to find the seller again. You just go to "My profile" on the Account drop down menu, and you will see them listed under Favorite Sellers.
There are two different options to get the purchased item into the hands of the buyer when selling items: Customer Pick-Up, or shipping the item via UPS, USPS, FED EX, or DHL. Currently, when listing an item to sell, we only offer shipping calculators for UPS, USPS, and FED EX, and these should only be used as an estimation of price, and not the exact cost you will incur when shipping the item.
Tips:
Make sure to contact the buyer soon after you're notified of someone purchasing your item in order to agree upon a method about receiving payment. Recommended methods of payment are via Paypal, or sending a money order or check (also make sure a check clears in your bank first before sending the item).
Only send the item once payment is received (and cleared if you receive a check).
Make sure to pack the item well! This will prevent it from getting damaged in the shipping process that could result in a bad review of the transaction from the buyer.
If you're a buyer, send out the payment as soon as possible. Making a seller wait for shipping payments can be aggravating and lead to a lower review of the overall transaction with you.
A buyer has the right to return an item within 30 days of the delivery, as long as they are in their original packaging (as sent by seller) and is in a condition like it was received. When an item is returned, the buyer must assume the cost of shipping back to the seller, unless otherwise agreed upon between parties or if there is a dispute in question. The Seller should then refund the points spent on the item within four weeks of receiving the item back. If the points have not been refunded in that time, you may file a dispute claim with Tots Swap Shop.
Dispute claims are filed when the seller has:
- refused to complete the sale
- significantly misrepresented an item that they have sold
- not responded to buyer's communication within 10 days of contact
- not sent the item purchased by the buyer or issued a refund of points and shipping charges
Violations of this policy by a seller may result in a range of actions (please review the Violator's Policy)
Most disputes between buyers and sellers can be resolved by direct communication between the two parties, although in case a resolution can not be reached, please follow these steps:
- Buyer contacts Tots Swap Shop between 14 and 60 days from the original transaction date and explains the sellers violation.
- Tots Swap Shop contacts the seller to inform them that a dispute has been opened and encourages further communication between parties.
- Seller then contacts Tots Swap Shop to clarify the status of the transaction or to present solutions for resolving the dispute. For example "I will contact the buyer directly" , "Buyer has not yet paid shipping charges" or "I will ship a replacement item"
- Seller contacts the buyer to present solutions for resolving the dispute.
- The buyer contacts Tots Swap Shop to close the dispute in one of two ways:
- The dispute has been resolved - Tots Swap Shop then closes the dispute, which cannot be re-opened, so the buyer must be satisfied with the resolution before notifying Tots Swap Shop.
- The dispute has not been resolved. - Tots Swap Shop will review the details of the complaint and issue a judgment. If it is determined that the seller is at fault, Tots Swap Shop may penalize the seller (please review our Violator's Policy). At this time, the buyer is welcomed to submit an unfavorable review of the seller
To file a dispute, please email dispute@totsswapshop.com and be as detailed as possible when describing the problem.
